I am a landlord and I had a terrible experience letting my property via Worthing Housing Department. The liaison officer was very friendly and keen to let my property to a tenant on the housing list. However this tenant did not pay her rent once her housing benefit was stopped. The liaison officer was not very supportive. He told me that I would have to use the possession route which I did. He advised the tenant she could stay until bailiffs came to evict, and when she ultimately left the flat was trashed and require a considerable amount of money to be spent on it before it was fit to let again. It took several weeks and many emails before I could recover the deposit from the council and the liaison officer refused to speak to me on several occasions. I would not advise any private landlord to let his/her property via Worthing Council.
